We are still running our benefit for Castro Valley High School’s art department! Help some kids have stuff like paint and brushes!! A donation of $10 gets you a historical sketch of your request! A $20 donation gets you one of those AND a copy of our book signed by both Geoff and I! A $50 donation gets you a guest appearance in the next story arc! Be internet immortal!

There are a number of interesting myths that have developed around the Lincoln Memorial. Robert E. Lee’s head is supposed to be hidden in Lincoln’s hair. More interesting, Abe is supposed to be signing “A” and “L” with his hands – some say that the sculptor, Daniel French, who had a deaf son, meant this as a tribute to Lincoln’s legislation for deaf Americans. But if you really wanted to pay a tribute to the man, you would have him signing something profound, right? Like, NOT his own initials? He’s Abraham Lincoln, not Flavor Flav. I find it hard to believe that a sculptor with any artistic sense would think that Abe flashing his own nits would in any way augment the gravitas of the statue. So, I’m going to say no on that one.

Budget cuts have hit the small town where the venerable Schloss von Luckner is situated, and our schools are getting particularly heavily hit. At my daughter’s elementary school, Wednesday has become permanently a half day, and at the high school, the art teacher is going out to the community to ask for help in buying the simple necessities of brushes and supplies for her class. We here at FtG aim to help her out, because maybe if more art supplies had found their way into my hands earlier on, we could have all been saved the visual feast that is this.
So, we’re having us a good old fashioned SKETCH DRIVE!! Click on the button below, donate what you care to give, and I’ll send you a personalized sketch of your choice. Can’t think of anything? Look at our new sketches page for inspiration! Help out the next generation of artists and get some nifty stuff in the process!!

And for those inclined to nostalgia, you can find the events Abe and Frederick are referring to here:
Getting Shot by a Beaver
Getting Shot by a Hootchbox
Abe, Baba Yaga, and the Bear
Old Fritz Emerges
