I totally slacked on the last panel… what Geoff asked for was a squid-headed turtle with a city for a shell and lobster claws WITH Trinity College in the background… The background he got is SLIGHTLY different, being, namely, Empty Sky (underrated Elton John album, by the by…)
Okay, vaguely Lovecraftian aliens were in the last arc and overtly Lovecraftian things have been happening in this arc, but I promise that the next arc will contain one-hundred percent things man was meant to know.
So yeah, Elder God with a city on its shell. I guess I was thinking about the ol’ “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh C’thulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn” line and was wondering what it would be like if the home was the city was a shell. Kind of like a snail.
We were also just speculating about the kinds of monsters that might inhabit the sea and the compositions of their shells.

Today, Sullivan conducts the greatest orchestra ever assembled in the history of man. Should he succeed, he wins his freedom… should he fail, he will spend the rest of his life in thrall to von Bulow, and Gilbert and Sullivan WILL NEVER BE! The consequences are too high NOT to be reading Episode 236 RIGHT NOW!
– Geoff and The Count
Drawing the Royal Conquering Orchestra is pretty much pure joy, namely because it represents the chance to choose once and for all the historically wicked-awesomest string section ever. For the record, here are the dudes visible. For the violins, I’ve linked to recordings of the third movement of the Sibelius violin concerto when possible for runaway comparative glee (suggestion: go from Perlman to Neveu)!
Then, I’ll be talking about the not-pictured wind, brass, and percussion section over at Facebook a bit later, so drop by!
