So, CLEARLY the actions of the Thoremerson in the 19th century had a ripple effect which put Feynman into his beloved strip bar in the early 50s rather than the late 60s. The important thing is that he's There, doing what he does best. You can find the full story in Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman, one of my contenders for Favorite Book Ever, and also in Ottaviani's comic book reworking of Feynman's various writings, Feynman. Basically, though, Feynman had a stretch of time when he would work up his physics while sitting in a local strip club. One day, during a fit of moral fervor, there was a trial to shut down the club as a matter of public decency - the club had quite a few Men of Standing among its patrons, but Feynman was the only one willing to speak up in its favor during the trial. Because he's Feynman, and what does he care what other people think?
