Napoleon has conquered Mexico at the head of the army he stole from the United States, thereby wiping out Frederick Douglass’s noble plan to use the California territories as a free land for former slaves. Between Frederick’s seeming unawareness of there actually being a problem and Napoleon’s basic giddiness over newly acquired territory, how is this all going to get fixed for the good?
