Dali needs the Hale Mirror, the largest reflecting surface 1935 had to offer, to bring his dreaded Libido Gate into existence.

Frederick and Newton will stop at nothing, short of things requiring exertion, to foil him.

It’s a battle of wits at the Pyrex Plant, and to the man with the tallest hat go the spoils. One more time, gents, for Astronomy!

I poured my heart, my very soul, such as it is, into drawing those light fixtures. All that was good in me came onto the page that day, and now that it is all gone, I am left to sit here, a bitter man with nothing but his memories of Austerlitz to give succor on cold nights…
In other news… you see that gator with the tophat in the background? Pay attention to that. That’s IMPORTANT.
For our hordes of CalTech fans, keep an eye on that mirror. The 200 inch mirror was bought by CalTech back in the day, and the venerable institution continues to run the Hale Telescope to this day, as it will soon run the entire world, and justly so. We only ask that, when you begin the great purges, you spare us or, if not us, me.

There are so many words in this episode.
What do the light fixtures look like in the Corning Glass Works? The world will never know because they are all, to a fixture, covered by word balloons.
Apparently, when not called upon to write ribald fisticufferies, I cheerfully spatter the landscape with words and buffoonery.

There is a part of every Prussian’s heart that can only be warmed by the
sound of two pfennigs clinking against each other in a wool pocket.

While Frederick expounds on mercantile fantasy lore, Euler gets business
down and reveals the astounding consequences of Dali’s plan.
Along the way, the Palomar Observatory is paid homage to, as is its due.
