The Sans Souci tour is set up just about perfectly – you start in some of the rooms that still bear a strong resemblance to Frederick’s original vision, then make your way through those that his hapless descendents ruined with their more sober tastes, until finally you come to Voltaire’s room as Frederick designed it, and it’s bat-shit crazy. It’s a powerful and beautiful thing, standing there in the room that he lovingly crafted to the last detail for his idol and friend, and thinking about the conversations that the monarch and the philosopher must have had there. But still, it’s not entirely a SUBTLE room, matched for crazy only by the Chinese pavilion down the road aways. I can’t seem to find a good wide shot of the Voltaire Room on the internets, but here’s a good picture of ONE of the monkey statues:

And here is that exercise in Rococo restraint that is the Chinese tea house:

In other news, we are going to be at ECCC all weekend, at table E-16! Come and find us and ask us to draw things and relate ribald stories of historical import!! We get ever so lonely by ourselves!

Welcome to the new story arc! I’m excited as excited can be to be wearing the scripting pants again, and to be strapping them on during the same week when we head out to ECCC, well, that’s the makings of the best week ever right there! So, come by and see us at table E-16 to chat for a spell! Oh, and for those who weren’t around the last time Modest Mussorgsky displayed his… gift… here ya go!

I didn’t realize that the arc ended up at 128 episodes. What a good power of two to end on.
My original conception for this arc was to be a quick, jokey “Abe gets his Funk back roadtrip” and the tale grew in the telling.
Frederick has been moving on up during the course of this arc. We’ve got the Kickstarter money to print up the next book, so we’ll be busy with that over the next few months.
We’re also gearing up to head off to Emerald City Comic Con again, so if you are in Seattle, stop on by.
With The Count’s arc starting up next week, now is a fine time to tell your friends to jump on the bandwagon.
I’m personally looking forward to getting some scripts to read that didn’t come from my head.
Onwards to affectation!
