Ep 53 Dolby

Frederick loved creating new orders and decorations for Prussia. He saw that people would workk themselves just as silly for a piece of special ribbon as they would for a hundred acres of hereditary land and, figuring that Prussia had more ribbon than land…
On Wednesday I got to meet Ryan Claytor of And Then One Day fame while he was at my beloved Treasure Island Comics signing his books. I had not up until then gotten a chance to read any of these, but I heartily recommend the first book as something entirely Different. It’s like somebody took the book of a man’s life, ripped it up, threw it into the air, and then drew whatever random bits of paragraphs happened to fall into his hands… flashes of existence often without beginning or end … things you wouldn’t notice if they weren’t singled out in this way. Like I said… a different sort of comic experience, and one I enjoyed very much treating myself to.
In the meantime, Happy Six-Month-Erversary to us!

The Florentines are stirred after Peter’s assault upon their sleeping regiment, and have executed The Doomsday Plan: namely, using weapons to attack the enemy until it goes away. Their dander is up, and it appears that the tsarly giant (or giantly tsar) has bitten off more than he can chew this time. Is this the end of Peter and Newton? Find out in episode 52: No Buttons, No Mercy!!

Thus is put to an end the ages-old barroom discussion of “Who would win in a fight between a sixteenth century Florentine Army and The Amish?” My mother actually lives in the middle of a rather large Amish/Anabaptist community, and there isn’t one of them that couldn’t tear me in half with one hand.
The Longboat Strategy actually worked well for Peter once. In the Great Northern War, Sweden’s navy was one of the preeminent fighting forces in the world. Peter knew he couldn’t beat it ship to ship so instead he built a bunch of dinky longboats and just swarmed the hell out of the Swedish vessels, beating them so badly that they remained a non-factor for the rest of the war.
