After having found the advice of Dr. Seuss and Frank Capra to be well worth the trip, Frederick finds himself in need of a music-maker to weave the soundscape of his perfect Christmas. As luck would have it, he finds two on the set of a little movie called Holiday Inn. It’s music-writin’ the ole fashioned way in Episode Four: Then We Take Berlin!

If you haven’t watched Holiday Inn, it’s worth it just to see this, Fred Astaire’s way-awesome firecracker dance.
It also incidentally has this bit, which came to be somewhat well known.
At the same time… it also has the Abraham song. I’m not one for using current practice to evaluate past practice, as current practice will doubtlessly turn out to be barbaric and naive in ways I can’t even imagine, in which case it’s probably not the most solid ground to lob analytic javelins from. Still, it’s an… uncomfortable… bit of footage.
So then I watch this bit of rad, also from Holiday Inn, and things get better again.
Well, Aught Decade, you’ve done your bit. David Bowie released the awesome Heathen album during you and, well, that pretty much cancels out all the bad stuff as I figure it. See you all in the teens!

Frederick learned a valuable lesson about life and death and orphan melting from Dr. Seuss. And now it is no less a Christmas regular than Frank Capra dishing out the advice! It has all the earmarks of a run on the bank…

Okay, so Frank had commies on the brain a bit after the war, but damn it, he directed Arsenic and Old Lace, which is just about the best movie ever, AND Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, AND It Happened One Night, AND, lest we forget,
DIRIGIBLE!
So, yeah, Capra pretty much rocked.
